Hi !
Hello! My name is Recherche or ‘Cherche’ for short. I’m a Canadian artist and teacher now living in Angers, France for over 8 years. It has been a dream of mine for some time to bring together my two great passions, the arts & teaching, and that is exactly what I have done with Cherche and Create ! I provide English art workshops to children, as well as adults - from drawing and painting to crafts and sculptures, we create it all !
A little bit more about me….
Canadian roots
From Canada I received both my International Bachelor of Arts specialising in Fine Arts and French studies as well as my Bachelor of Education. I had the pleasure of teaching French as a second language in different primary schools across the city of Toronto. I was also very involved with the arts in my city, having worked with inner-city schools to create murals and individual classroom workshops. During my university studies I was lucky enough to be able to do a year abroad – and my place of choice was Angers!
Cherche and Create – the adventure begins !
From my Angers teaching experiences I quickly understood the shared opinion of parents over the importance for their children to learn English and the numerous opportunities it offers for their future. I completely share this belief. Growing up I had some French learning difficulties and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the strong determination of my parents as well as a passionate teacher who discovered my visual learning style. Since then, I’ve dreamed of sharing this unique and motivating experience of uniting language and arts to support all learners.
Over many years I thought about opening my own business to support children learning English. So, in October 2019 I decided to take the leap and create my own business to help provide English support in the Angers community (and beyond!) through the Arts. Starting in small shops across the city as well as schools until January 2021 when I found the perfect space for Cherche and Create Art Studio !
I truly believe English is best learned and absorbed in a fun, open environment alongside an anglophone - and what better way than by creating things that make us happy! I’m so excited to start sharing my adventures of creating in English across this lovely city.
Angers beginnings
I quickly fell in love with the French city of Angers when I did my year abroad of Fine Arts studies. After finishing my degrees, I decided to make a permanent move to Angers. Here I have gained many experiences in education - teaching in public schools, private schools, and Montessori. With each new opportunity I shared my Canadian philosophy of education as well as different techniques.
Far from me, over in Canada, but close in my heart. I get all of my creative genes from my family : My dad the photographer/conceptual, my mom the artist/yummy baker, and my sister the beautiful dancer/hilarious actress.
